Student Induction Checklist

The following checklist outlines the minimum requirements that the trainer or assessor must address when conducting a student induction.

It is recommended that the induction be course-specific, while also including compulsory information relating to the RTO, training centre, and relevant department.

This induction checklist has been developed to ensure that all students receive a consistent and comprehensive introduction to their course, and that they understand their rights, responsibilities, and obligations while undertaking training and assessment.

Trainers and assessors must ensure that all students complete the induction process prior to the commencement of their training or classes.

As part of the induction process, students must be provided with information relating to, but not limited to, the following:

Course Information

Overview of the qualification or unit(s) of competency

Course structure and sequencing of units/topics

Training delivery methods

Expected duration and training schedule

Training and Assessment Requirements

Assessment methods and expectations

Evidence requirements for competency

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer processes

Academic integrity and authenticity of assessment evidence

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Code of conduct

Participation and attendance expectations

Student responsibilities during training and assessment

Student Support

Available learning and wellbeing support services

Reasonable adjustment and support for diverse learning needs

Language, literacy and numeracy support

Administrative Requirements

Unique Student Identifier (USI) requirements

Attendance Record Policy

To ensure compliance, the attendance record must meet the following requirements:

Unit of Competency Identification
The attendance record must clearly show the unit(s) of competency delivered during the session or training day.
Where multiple or clustered units are delivered concurrently, a delivery plan must be included or be available to demonstrate how the units were delivered during the session.
Completion of Attendance Record
The endorsed attendance record must be completed accurately and in full, including:
- Qualification code and title, or unit of competency code and title
- Student name
- Student's mobile number
- Student signature
- Date of attendance
- Trainer/Assessor name and signature
Attendance Recording Method
As these attendance records are not pre-filled, no coding system is required to indicate attendance status (for example, P = Present or A = Absent).
However, when a student arrives late, a separate attendance record might need to be completed to accurately reflect their attendance. This will depend on when the attendance record is completed. We suggest completing the attendance record 30 minutes into the training session.
Submission of Attendance Records
Once the electronic attendance register has been submitted, the administration team will upload the record to the relevant course folder on the Enrolments Server for storage and recordkeeping.
