(INCLUDES HLTAID011 & HLTAID009)

VERSION 2024.1

ASSESSMENT TASK 1 - PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT OF CPR

Three scenarios are to be assessed.

Scenario 1: Unconscious, Non-breathing child.

Performance Outcome:

  • Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on a child resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
Scenario 2: Unconscious, non-breathing infant.

Performance Outcome:

  • Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
Scenario 3: Unconscious, non-breathing adult (includes use of a AED).

Performance Outcome:

  • Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
  • Following the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock.
  • Demonstrating a rotation of single rescuer operators with minimal interruptions to compressions.
  • Responding appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting.
Name(Required)

Assessor Instructions (Remember):

You are to observe candidates undertake 3 roll-plays that define emergency situations where Care for the Unconscious is required. Observations are to be recorded on the assessor checklist provided below by placing a Tick (✔️) in the appropriate box (example: ✔️ YES or ✔️ NO.) Feedback/Comments are to be used when the candidate is deemed NYC to explain why.

You will be required to provide each student with the three scenarios, ensure you list them below. Students must demonstrate competency in all the checklist items listed below to be deemed competent in this assessment task.

Each scenario must require CPR, and it is the assessor’s responsibility to “set the scene”.
